Sharing What I Love
I recently read that you should write about something you love, something you never tire of. For more than a decade (coming up on 13 actually), I’ve been a family photographer. I’ve loved photography since my early teen years, but it wasn’t until I left the Army and began a family that I wondered what I’d do with my life. I’m by no means a person that can function well without hobbies and a creative outlet, so with the support of my spouse, I dove right into learning what it would take to make photography a job. I’ve loved learning over the years about who I am as a photographer, what my style is, how to shoot in any scenario, and how to offer high quality. At this stage, if I’m confident about nothing else, I am truly confident about my photography. That feels so good to say. There’s always more to learn and I’m not the best by any means, but I’m happy with where I’m at. I’m more of a part-time family photographer these days, as we’ve become a homeschool family and I’m still learning what it means to run and take care of my household. I’ve long held the notion that I had to do what seemed right or what was expected, but I’m learning now, that I can actually form a life around where we’re at as a family and how that affects and shapes me as a person, mother, and wife.
My days are largely spent teaching my daughters and getting such sweet time with them that I wouldn’t otherwise get. In between those moments, I’m with my camera, out in the garden, or preparing for our time at our local Farmer’s Market on Saturdays. I like to keep busy, but with ample downtime for creating. It’s own form of busyness. I’m still working with families and love every minute of it. So thank you to those who stick with me and understand those of us who enjoy doing multiple things and can’t sit still. Hello!
