A Touch of Whimsy in the Summer Garden

This garden was born from a quarantine project that developed quickly thanks to local plant sales and plant propagation from friends and family. The side nearest the driveway is lined by maple trees that give way to an assortment of deciduous and evergreen trees, creating a circle of sorts. There’s a small blueberry patch on the side opposite the maples and as our property develops, will give way to layers and layers of garden spaces and trees.

These garden paths are designated by plants and natural elements that guide you through the space. The idea, as the plants mature in years to come, is to create a lush, secretive space to linger in and observe.

Signs of my girls lingering in the garden will forever fill my heart with these days of their childhood and the hours we spend tending to the earth together.

Mixing food with flowers adds charm and whimsy in a way that is often overlooked. Here you’ll find cabbage and artichoke, strawberries, pumpkins, and fruit trees that offer more than just nourishment, they provide companion planting, seasonal notes, and interest to the garden.

At the back of the garden is a gazebo tucked away with jasmine and clematis vining up the sides, solar string lights at the top, and concrete benches to welcome a rest, before finding your way through the rest of the garden.

Even the youngest plants are putting on growth, things are filling in and spreading out, late summer flowers are at their peak while signs of fall are slowly creeping in. There’s so much to photograph as things change, but this is all for now.
